On Wednesday, Toyota formally celebrated the expansion of its footprint in Kentucky with a new facility coming to Hopkinsville.
Toyota Boshoku America Incorporated is investing $225 million in the Christian County plant that will employ 157 people. Officials describe it as their first "smart plant" and are planning to produce seat adjustment mechanisms like tracks, recliners, and motors for Toyota, Subaru, and BMW.
Construction began on the facility back in June, and Governor Beshear participated in a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday with Japanese officials. They expect production to begin in 2025.
Toyota Boshoku America already has manufacturing facilities in Harrodsburg, Lebanon, and Bardstown. The parent company is headquartered in Erlanger, Kentucky, as well.
Once the Hopkinsville plant comes online, there will be over 1,100 Kentuckians employed by Toyota Boshoku America, part of 5,000 nationwide and 13,000 around the world.
