The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 5, and First Baptist Church of Paducah is hosting the annual Mayor's and Judge Executive's Prayer Breakfast.

First Baptist Church Associate Pastor Russ Wilson said the National Day of Prayer Task Force set the theme for the event, which is "Wake Up America," emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name. The key verse is from an Old Testament prophet. "Isaiah 58:1 says, 'Shout aloud, do not hold back, raise your voice like a trumpet,' so I think it's time to speak to the Lord about the shape of America, and maybe even raise our voices as believers about the things that are going on in our country, and really, even around the world."

The event has been celebrated annually in Paducah for a couple of decades, originally hosted by local Christian radio stations, and then by the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club. First Baptist Church has allowed the event to use its Great Room for several years. "Last year was our first year to be not only the host, but to be the event coordinator," Wilson said.

He said about 25 tables and approximately 200 people are currently set to attend, which makes it one of the most-attended since 2010, when he joined the church staff.

All proceeds will benefit Community Kitchen and their efforts to feed the hungry in Paducah.

Tickets are available individually for $25, and businesses or groups can sponsor a table that seats eight for $200. Those sponsors would also get their names listed in the event's program.

Event sponsorships are still available for $500, which include a table for eight, a logo printed in the program, a display table in the Great Room, and an opportunity to promote themselves to attendees by leaving items at each table.

For more information on the event or for tickets, call First Baptist Church at 270-442-2728. The church is located at 2890 Broadway.
