A Graves County church has partnered with a national organization to make sure local kids have beds to sleep on.

Trace Creek Baptist Church's Senior Pastor Ronnie Stinson Jr. says he was looking for a local summer mission project for his congregation when he came upon Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non-profit organization out of Idaho that builds and delivers beds to children who don't have a bed to sleep on. The church raised $35,000, and this week hundreds of church volunteers are busy constructing 200 beds.

“They came in ready to work,” Stinson said. “They are very excited about it.”

Stinson says church members are also providing mattresses, sheets and quilts to go with the beds.

Julie Morris is with the Kenlake Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which services Graves, Marshall and Calloway counties. Morris says once the beds are built, they will be delivered to those who need them.

“If kids are sleeping on the floor, or doubled up or with parents or on the couch or on mattresses or a pile of clothes on the floor, we want to help,” Morris said. “If they want a bed, all they have to do is go to our website and fill out a “Request a Bed” application. If it's in our zip code, it comes to us.”
