Women's Club Supports School Backpack Program
By WestKyStar Staff
MAYFIELD, KY - The Mayfield Community Women’s Club donates proceeds from its annual Holiday Home Tour to community projects, including Grace Medical Clinic, the Lighthouse Children’s Home, and the Mayfield Fire Department. This year, the club donated $1,400 – $700 each to the Graves County and Mayfield Independent school districts – to purchase backpacks of food sent home each weekend with 140 children in need, 70 per district.
The Purchase Area Development District’s Commodity and Food Bank Task Force coordinates the Feeding America Backpack Program.
“Through the graciousness of local home owners who open their homes for our Holiday Home Tour, we’re able to raise funds to fill a specific need in our community,” said Gloria Galloway, chairperson of the MCWC Holiday Home Tour. “We learned about the Feeding America Backpack program from Jennifer Morris of Symsonia-Farmington Family Resource Center. We’re glad that we can help hungry children.”
