Paducah Tilghman senior Vanessa Davis has been named a 2017 QuestBridge Scholar, receiving admission and four-year full tuition, room and board, and other expenses to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

QuestBridge is a national nonprofit organization that connects the nation’s most exceptional youth with leading colleges and opportunities. Working with these scholars, QuestBridge follows students from their senior year in high school through college and to their first job.

This year, QuestBridge reported a record-high total of 14,491 applicants, with 5,338 advancing to finalist status based on academic, financial, and extracurricular credentials. Of these, 767 were matched with highly selective colleges and universities.

Davis is a member of the National Honor Society, the PTHS academic team, the Kentucky Junior Historical Society, the Law Club, Interact, and the archery team. She is a Paxton Scholar and was named a regional champion at the Kentucky History Day competition last spring. She is currently ranked 5th in her class.

“Paducah Tilghman is so proud that Vanessa has been recognized on the national level for her diligent work,” said Superintendent Donald Shively. “I am certain that the solid foundation she has worked hard to build while in the Paducah Paducah Schools will serve her well as she continues her education at Notre Dame.”

Davis is the daughter of Marcey and Demond Davis. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Ann Newnam and Jimmy Newnam.
Davis plans to major in biology and aspires to be an obstetrician and gynecologist.
