Dozens of students from the University of Tennessee at Martin are rallying in support of maintenance staff members who could potentially lose their jobs.

The Jackson Sun reports students and workers attended the rally on Tuesday. Gov. Bill Haslam has said that no decision has been made on whether to pursue privatization of facilities management for state buildings and parks.

If such a proposal moves forward, universities under the Tennessee Board of Regents and University of Tennessee systems could lose some staff positions.

Governor's office representative Jennifer Donnals says no decisions have been made regarding privatizing staff at universities in the state. Donnals says facility management efforts have saved approximately $12.9 million in the last two years and have improved maintenance by 10 percent.
