The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America has named McCracken County High School’s FCCLA chapter as its 2019 National Career Connection high school winner.

Seeing the need at their school for students to better understand future employers’ expectations, MCHS FCCLA members organized the CTE Roundtable event. Students in CTE courses at MCHS earn “career readiness” status by completing courses, taking assessments and serving in internships and co-ops; the CTE Roundtable was a chance to round out those experiences by hearing directly from local leaders about what it takes to succeed in their respective industries.

MCHS FCCLA members helped recruit and invite industry experts to speak with students in small group assemblies, and gathered their fellow students’ questions for the panelists. They also helped school administrators keep the event running smoothly day-of, and guided their fellow students in writing and sending handwritten thank you notes to panelists.

The project involved all 91 MCHS FCCLA members, and over 350 students total participated in the event.

As the national winner at the high school level, MCHS FCCLA will attend the 2019 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in June 30 to July 4 in Anaheim, CA. There they’ll receive a $1,000 High School Career Connection Award and showcase their winning project during the conference’s Spotlight on Projects session.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has more than 164,000 members and more than 5,300 chapters from 49 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
