McCracken County High School FFA members have earned a long list of awards and honors so far this spring, and the list continues to grow. Most recently they brought home 1st as a team in dairy judging and 6th as a chapter overall of the 52 schools from KY, IL, TN and MO that competed at the Murray State FFA Field Day event April 10.

McCracken had 43 students total compete in MSU FFA Field Day competitions such as tobacco grading, small animal, nursery and floral identification, rodeo, and more. 

During the dairy judging competition, teams were asked to place groups of dairy cows in order from best to worst based on the cows’ physical traits. McCracken’s 1st place-winning team included Bailey Sutton, Abby Morris, Raylynn Broaddus, and Emily Tapp. 

As part of the Field Day event, the Purchase Region FFA also had its regional welding contests. McCracken’s welding team — Isaac Medley, Travis Hayden, Nick Shell and Matthew Gross — finished first in the region for their arc welding work, and will compete at the KY State Fair in August. Individually, Shell was named regional champion in MIG welding, and Medley was named regional champion in oxy-acetylene welding.
Several McCracken FFA members were also recognized at the Purchase Region FFA’s awards banquet March 28 for their outstanding achievements this year.

The following students placed in FFA paperwork contests, which involve submission of detailed documentation of students’ agricultural experience projects. Students named Regional Champion in these events will compete at the state level in June:
• Agriculture Communications — Alissa Gott, Regional Champion
• Agriculture Education — Gabbie McLeod, Regional Champion
• Agriculture Mechanics Design and Fabrication — Tanner Thomas, Regional Champion
• Agriscience Animal Research — Alissa Gott, Regional Champion
• Agriscience Integrated Research- Ashlyn Gibson, Regional Champion
• Beef Production Entrepreneurship — Cheyenne McKinney, Regional Champion
• Equine Science Placement — Zach Walker, Regional Champion
• Food Science and Technology — Gabbie McLeod, Regional Champion
• Goat Production — Lindsey Goodwin, Regional Runner-Up
• Grain Production Entrepreneurship — Peyton Wray, Regional Champion
• Landscape Management — Harper Burkeen, Regional Runner-Up
• Outdoor Recreation — Randi Jo Waldon, Regional Champion
• Small Animal Production and Care — Autumn Ivy, Regional Champion
• Specialty Animal Production — Allen Everett, Regional Champion
• Veterinary Science — Hannah Ferrell, Regional Champion
• Tobacco Essay — Ramsey Ramage, Regional Runner-Up

At the same banquet several students were also recognized for their performance in speaking events:
• Ashlyn Gibson — Extemporaneous Public Speaking Regional Champion
• Alissa Gott — Floral Impromptu Speaking Regional Runner-Up
• Allen Everett — Small Animal Impromptu Speaking Regional Champion
• Cody Browning — Greenhouse Impromptu Regional Runner Up
• Ava Kelly — Aquaculture Impromptu Regional Champion
• Avery Goodwin — Environmental Impromptu Regional Champion
• Avery Miller — Swine Impromptu Regional Runner Up
• Savannah Henderson — Horse Impromptu Regional Runner Up
• Mallory Stewart — Poultry Impromptu Regional Third
• Waylon Wood — FFA Creed Recitation Regional Third

The McCracken County Senior and Junior Parliamentary Procedure Teams were also named Regional Champions. In these competitions, students held a 10-minute business meeting using Robert Rules of Order. Members of the Sr. Parliamentary Procedure Team include: Ashlyn Gibson, Gabbie McLeod, Alissa Gott, Elly Travis, Savannah Henderson, Hannah Hatton, Allen Everett and Lexie Harned.

Members of the Jr. Parliamentary Procedure Team include: Isabella McLeod, Waylon Wood, Avery Miller, Mallory Stewart, Abby Beth, Katie Lindsey, Alex Heine, Ramsey Ramage and Avery Goodwin.
