Mayfield High School has been awarded a $675,000 grant for after-school programming through the 21st Century Community Learning Center Program.

This federally funded program began serving Kentucky students approximately 20 year ago. The goal of this program is to encourage the Mayfield community to provide support for their youth both academically and socially.

All 21st Century Community Learning Centers are required to provide academic support, enrichment activities and parent support and training. The grant will be unique in its involvement with the Purchase Area Development District, the Mayfield-Graves County Chamber of Commerce, and the West Kentucky Community and Technical College Skilled Training Center.

A major objective is to familiarize our students with career and training options in our city,” explained Carolyn Downing, Grant Coordinator. “We plan to get our students out into the community to see what wonderful opportunities our community has to offer.”

The program will be under the direction of Stephanie Mapes, the Student Services Coordinator and Colleen Blackwell, the program’s Community Outreach/Data Coordinator.
