The Kentucky Board of Education is asking the public to help decide what to look for in a new state education commissioner.

Commissioner Terry Holliday announced in April that he will retire Aug. 31.

Now the board has come up with a list of characteristics to look for in Holliday's successor and wants the public to give feedback before the board finalizes the list. The list will be used for the job posting and to evaluate potential candidates.

Among the traits the board has included is a commitment to putting students' needs and interests first and preparing them for success.

A draft of all the traits is available on the Education Department's website. The public can comment and submit other feedback at https://www.research.net/s/KYedcomm . The survey closes at 4 p.m. CDT May 29.
