The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Paducah Innovation Hub was held Monday afternoon at Paducah Tilghman High School.

A large crowd braved wind chills in the lower 40s to celebrate the occasion.

The new Innovation Hub will be constructed between Paducah Tilghman High School and the Paducah Area Technical Center. Some of the programs that will be offered include: Auto Body, Auto Tech, Welding, Carpentry, Engineering, Health Sciences, CAD, Robotics, and IT-Networking.

Paducah Public School Superintendent Donald Shively told West Kentucky Star, "The Paducah Innovation Hub has a regional approach, which means it will be open for students across the region, specifically for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. We envision the maker space being the opportunity for students to ensure that they build a vision for their life. It has the ability to impact not only Western Kentucky, but also Southern Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee."

Shively also explained that students would be learning the most important workforce skills in this economy, which are problem solving, seeing patterns and trends, being innovative, how to work on a team, and how to communicate.
