Graves County High School juniors Jacob Govea, Macy Youngblood, and Jake Waldridge are among an elite group of students across the Commonwealth selected to participate in the Kentucky Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs this summer at Georgetown College.

GSE was founded two years ago to allow young business leaders in high school to begin the innovative thought process and launch their own business start-ups. The application required a YouTube video informing the panel of judges about an innovative product or idea, as well as individual applications from each of the team members on their personal traits.

Youngblood explained that the most difficult part of the process was coming up with an idea. She stated that the team had to work together in several ways to come up their business idea, social media marketing. Several colleges offer scholarships and other incentives to GSE students who complete the summer program.

All members of this team participate in business classes at the high school, help run the student bank GC Trust, and are members of the Future Business Leaders of America organization.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Waldridge, “I’m excited to learn more and I’m looking forward to it.” Govea agreed, saying, “It’s an honor to be the first team selected from GCHS. It will definitely put us above the ranks of others when applying for college scholarships.”

Youngblood agreed that this is a great opportunity and will give the team members an edge in college.
