Ballard County Preschool and Head Start has earned the highest possible certification by Kentucky’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services, the Department for Community Based Services, Division of Child Care and the Department of Education.

This means BCPS has met the standards for Level Five in the Kentucky All STARS tiered quality rating system, which is based on Kentucky’s early childhood standards and research-based indicators of quality. The rating means BCPS has lower child-to-staff ratios, higher staff training credentials, increased family engagement, and a high-quality curriculum. The ratings, from one star at the lowest to five at the highest, are meant to help families choose the strongest possible preschool for their children.

“We have worked very hard this year to ensure that our preschool program is top-notch, and we are thrilled to receive the state’s highest rating,” said BCPS Director DiAnna Corrigan. “Preparation for the rating involved many pieces, including professional development for staff, memberships in professional organizations, on-site visits, and developmentally-appropriate scheduling for our students. “

The rating system provides a yardstick for parents as they consider where their children will receive their educational starts. Research indicates that children who attend high-quality early learning centers have better math, language and social skills as they get older.

The rating certification at BCPS is effective for three years, through the end of January 2020.
