Paducah City Manager James Arndt will speak at West Kentucky Community and Technical College Monday, October 1 to kick off the school's Sustainability Month.

According to a press release, Arndt will speak from 11 a.m. to noon in Waller Hall, Room 112. He will talk about his duties and responsibilities as city manager, as well as plans for the City of Paducah, especially as they related to sustainable development.

WKCTC biology professor and sustainability project coordinator Bobby Ann Lee said she and other faculty members are looking forward to Arndt's visit and speech, which is free and open to the public.

Other sustainability activities WKCTC has planned throughout the month include a student club contest, which encourages students and others in our community to pledge to increasing their local and global awareness and their personal efforts in sustainability. This includes reducing and recycling of environmental resources, respect for social multiculturalism and diversity, and economic development with future generations in mind.

The student club that gets the most online pledges will win a $100 to go toward their club activities and events. Individuals will also win sustainability prizes by pledging. The WKCTC campus will have a unique recycling project throughout the month of October. Large recycling containers will be placed in the quad area by Haws Gym. Campus recyclables will be stored here for the entire month to visually see and estimate the weight of material we recycle monthly.

All recycled materials will be taken to the recycling facility located at 400 State Street.
