The fourth quarter artwork for the 2014 Mayor’s Art Club currently is on display featuring paintings by Jane Bright and 3-D artwork by Jane Viterisi. The public can view the artwork when City Hall is open, Monday through Friday, 8 am until 4:30 pm. The artwork will be on display through the end of the year.

Three-dimensional artwork by Jane Viterisi is on display in the Mayor’s office at City Hall for this fourth quarter.  Viterisi constructs her work using repurposed materials and objects including electrical, computer, and telephone wire.  Viterisi says, “My preference is to use a variety of materials when making art.  The work on display in the Mayor’s office is considered to be an additive process by combining materials working in harmony to achieve the final piece of art.”  Viterisi has a bachelor’s degree from Murray State University in design material/art and in horticulture/agriculture.  She has a Master’s Degree in Sculpture from Indiana University. Viterisi is a member of Yeiser Art Center, Lotus Pond Club, and the Paducah Wastelanders.  She is a breast cancer survivor since 2005 with several of her works on display at the Baptist Imaging Center.

In the Mayor’s reception area at City Hall, paintings by Jane Bright are on display.  Bright has been taking classes and workshops since the mid-1960s.  Bright says, “My inspiration is the landscape.  I enjoy the scenes of nature.”  Bright also enjoys painting historic buildings.  This fall Bright attended an oil painting workshop in Provence, France painting en plein air.  En plein air is a French expression to describe the act of painting outdoors.  Bright’s work has been displayed at the Ruth Baggett Gallery, the Yeiser Art Center, West Kentucky Community & Technical College, and with the Paducah Wastelanders.

Here are the eight artists or art groups participating in the 2014 Mayor’s Art Club, featuring their work at City Hall:
Mary Ruth “Tutu” Maggard, 1st quarter
Bill Ford, 1st quarter
Rose Hughes, 2nd quarter
Dogwood Trail Art & Photography Contest Winners, 2nd quarter
Chuck Ehrsam, 3rd quarter
Stefanie Graves and David Lucht, 3rd quarter
Jane Viterisi, 4th quarter
Jane Bright, 4th quarter

Mayor Gayle Kaler began the Mayor’s Art Club in 2013 to allow local artists the opportunity to display their work at City Hall.  Each quarter of the calendar year, two artists or art groups have the opportunity to display their artwork in the Mayor’s office and reception area on the second floor of City Hall.  For more information about the Mayor’s Art Club including exhibit dates, visit www.paducahky.gov/paducah/mayors-art-club-0
