During this year's 34th Annual Spring AQS QuiltWeek in Paducah, thousands of quilting enthusiasts from all around the country and world once again made their way to Quilt City USA to experience the best of the best in all things quilting. The river city doubled its population with teachers, quilters, vendors and artists. Paducah is where those who appreciate the art meet for a fun time year after year.

"I simply can't miss a quilt show in Paducah," said Linda Lindsay from Philadelphia. "We drive here each year and even though it takes us two days to get here, I never want to miss it. I'm getting older and have to come with my daughter now, but this is where I plan to be each spring. I start looking forward to the next year on our drive home-every single year." And this is what we hear over and over during QuiltWeek.

With quilt related exhibits, events, classes, vendors, food and entertainment around every corner in downtown Paducah, it's hard to think of a better or more genuine group of people than the AQS quilters to have in town, if only for a few days. Paducah says, "Thank you, AQS, for 34 years of spring excitement and fun experiences."

The quality of quilting and the level of superior workmanship seem to bump up to a new level of superb year after year. Even though the National Quilt Museum offers unmatched quality in contemporary quilting masterpieces year round, it hosted unique artists, authors, quilters, vendors, classes and was open additional hours during QuiltWeek, too. One artist was particularly intriguing: Hollis Chatelain, an internationally recognized and award-winning artist specializes in textile painting. Through her works that address challenging social and environmental themes, Hollis reflects 12 years of experience living in West Africa and working with humanitarian organizations. Her dye-painted scenes of multi-cultural life convey the untold stories of women, children, families, and the earth, and have been described as "easy to gaze at, but hard to forget."

Chatelain's educational background is in design and photography and over 35 years experience as a professional artist. Hollis' work can be found in public and private collections throughout the world. In addition to creating her art, Hollis  holds lectures and workshops in the United States and abroad, instructing students in subjects including color, drawing, design, dye-painting, and quilting technique. She has a few of her quilts in Paducah for a couple of weeks but will have a gallery full of her creations next spring during the 2019 Spring AQS QuiltWeek-Paducah. A coloring book full of her art will be available in the museum's gift shop next month.
