Paducah Main Street is seeking individual artists and / or artist teams to design four pieces of functional art for historic downtown Paducah.  The city says the art pieces will be used as bicycle racks.

A request for proposals document which outlines the project parameters and the scoring criteria is posted on the City of Paducah’s website at the link below.

The city says the goals of the project are to improve the pedestrian experience and contribute to downtown Paducah’s artistic environment.  The city says each bike rack design should be capable of holding two standard bicycles, and will be evaluated on functionality, aesthetic quality, and durability with preference given to local artists.

Paducah Main Street Director Melinda Winchester says, “This project is another instance of our seeking to enhance Paducah’s Main Street District with Creative Placemaking efforts by incorporating art into functionality and by stimulating the public with the creative vision of our talented local artists.”

Four preliminary sites have been selected for the artistic bike racks. The sites are just to the east of the gazebo on Broadway, near U.S. Bank located at 333 Broadway, on Water Street between Broadway and Kentucky Avenue, and next to the public restrooms on Jefferson Street.

For more information about the request for proposals, contact Winchester at 270-444-8690.

The deadline to submit a proposal is July 14 at 3 p.m.
