Relay for Life County Totals Released

PADUCAH / WESTERN KENTUCKY - The 2018 Relays For Life saw over 1,500 participants come together across the region to help save lives from cancer.

Relay For Life events were held during April, May and June in McCracken, Ballard/Carlisle, Marshall, Graves, Calloway, Hickman, Lyon/Caldwell, and Trigg counties. The participants came together to celebrate local cancer survivors and raise money in the fight against cancer.

More than $355,000 was raised across the region to support the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer. Currently county totals are: McCracken: $91,550 | Ballard/Carlisle: 55,439 | Marshall: $55,910 | Graves: $18,645 | Calloway: $33,514 | Hickman: $14,037 | Lyon/Caldwell: 29,484 | Trigg: 57,121.
“It was inspirational to see people from all parts of our community come out to support us and help save lives from cancer,” said Janel Tate, ACS Community Development Manager. “Together, we celebrated those surviving cancer, remembered loved ones lost, and took tangible action to make a difference.”

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.
