Wolf Week: A Howlin’ Good Fall Break at LBL's Nature Station

GOLDEN POND, KY - Fall break is all about the wolves at the Woodlands Nature Station at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, with special kid-friendly programming planned October 8th – 14th. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and up, $3 for ages 5 to 12 and free for ages 4 and under.

Lead Naturalist John Pollpeter invites everyone to “Come visit our resident endangered red wolves and join their ‘pack’ of admirers.” There will be special wolf programs offered each day, feeding times and more. Discover why these cunning canines have inspired people for generations.

Monday, October 8
Monday Funday: Canine Playtime – 1:30 – 2 pm
It’s playtime for our coyotes and wolves. See how they react to new food and toys.
Red Wolf Treat Time – 2:30 – 2:50 pm
Who’s hungry like a wolf? Visit with one of the most endangered mammals in the US and learn about the efforts to save them.

Tuesday, October 9
Back with the Pack, 1:30 – 2 pm
What are the differences between a wolf and a coyote? Or a coyote and a dog? Learn how our wolves and coyotes differ from our pets.
Red Wolf Treat Time – 2:30 – 2:50 pm
Who’s hungry like a wolf? Visit with one of the most endangered mammals in the US and learn about the efforts to save them.

Wednesday, October 10
“Tails” of Wolves – 1:30 – 2 pm
Why do so many fairy tales have a big, bad wolf? We’ll look at some of the many ways wolves appear in folklore.

Thursday, October 11
A Howling Good Time – 1:30 – 2 pm

Wolves of the World – 1:30 – 2:30 pm
Our red wolves aren’t the only wolves on the block! Come see what wolves are like around the world.

Red Wolf Treat Time, Second Helpings! – 3:30 – 3:50 pm
Come see our wolves get a second helping of their treats as a naturalist fills you in about this highly endangered species.

Saturday, October 13
I Wish I Were a Werewolf - 11:30 am – 1 pm
You don’t need a full moon to learn about the legend of the werewolf and how it relates to real wolves. This program is a non-scary look at werewolves through history.
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs: A Puppet Show – 1:30 – 2 pm
Meet Alexander T. Wolf and find out his side of the story in this fun-spirited puppet show.

Sunday, October 14
What Does the Wolf Say? 11:30 am – 12 pm
Howls and tail wags, scents and scat! Wolves and coyotes are a talkative bunch. Come play some games and see if our coyotes are feeling chatty.
Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad…. 1 – 1:45 pm
What’s scarier than wolves? Butcher birds, house eating plants, blood sucking parasites and more!
Happy Wolf Day Party – 2:30 – 3 pm
Celebrate the last day of Wolf Week with us and throw a party during feeding time for the red wolves.
