Betty Lee Cope Owens, 93, of Bardwell, Kentucky, left this earth on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Betty was born on March 21, 1931, to the late Flora Washburn and Walter Washington-Lee Cope.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Owens; a son, Mitchell Owens; grandsons, Ty Black and Aaron Owens; and siblings, Jimmie L. Cope, Shirley Ann Phillips, and Sarah Mae Phelps.

Betty went from being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to working at Snowers Manufacturing Company before finding her true calling when she went back to school and became a CNA at the Clinton Hospital.  After leaving Clinton Hospital to care for family members, she worked as a private nursing assistant.

A highlight of Betty’s life was the time she spent in Alaska.  She loved traveling through so many states finding God’s beauty in each one.  Also, sometimes to the chagrin of her family, she could never say “no” to a stray cat or dog.  She delighted in feeding the birds, watering the plants, and telling her loved ones to “trust in Jesus and live a happy life.”

But her family was her pride and joy.  Children and grandchildren called often to find out how to _______.  Just fill in the blank because she was always called upon to tell the family how “to do it.”  As recently as April, she was giving instructions on when and how to “cut back” her Kentucky rose bush and was often called upon to explain how to bake her family's favorite recipes.

Betty was a member of the Church of Christ for the majority of her life and, most recently, was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Paducah.

Betty is survived by her son, Jimmy (Charlotte) Owens; her two daughters, Ginger Goode, and Sherry (Ronnie) Faircloth; daughter-in-law, Janie Owens; grandchildren, Roy Black, Ginnifer Barber, Dustin Goode, Brandi Cannon, Bobby Owens, and Brad Copeland; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell, with Jim Faughn officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the service time of 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the funeral home.
